Fox Tests Positive for Rabies After Attacking Child in Peachtree City
Peachtree City, GA — A fox that attacked a child in a Peachtree City neighborhood has tested positive for rabies, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health Laboratory.
The alarming incident occurred on July 23 in the Log House Road area. A local mother and her two children were outside in their driveway with their small dogs when the wild animal emerged from underneath one of their parked vehicles. The family quickly acted to protect their pets, scooping them up and heading inside their home. However, before they could reach safety, the fox lunged at one of the children, biting them several times and nipping at their heels.
Local authorities confirmed that the fox had been spotted multiple times in the area in the days leading up to the attack, raising concerns that it may have had other unreported encounters with residents.
Health officials are urging anyone who may have come into contact with the fox or noticed unusual wildlife behavior in the area to contact local animal control or the Georgia Department of Public Health immediately. Rabies is a serious, potentially fatal disease, but it can be prevented with prompt medical treatment.
Residents in Peachtree City are being reminded to keep a close eye on pets, ensure all animals are up to date on rabies vaccinations, and report any suspicious wildlife sightings.
